Why heritage access needs its own operating model

A heritage site is not a theme park with old buildings. Routes may include original stone, archaeological surfaces, protected stairs, narrow passages, heat exposure, crowds and strict conservation controls. Any wearable exoskeleton service therefore needs to be assessed route by route. The aim is to support suitable visitors who can already walk, not to bypass a site's access rules or represent the device as appropriate for every person or surface.

Long routes and mixed surfaces

Reversible visitor infrastructure

A wearable device can be fitted and returned without permanent track infrastructure, but storage, charging and staff access still need approval.

Potential use cases include a long approach between a visitor centre and key interpretation areas, approved outdoor circuits, guided archaeological walks, heritage gardens and large museum precincts. The practical opportunity is strongest where visitors already expect significant walking and where the venue can identify a clear fitting point, route boundary and return process.

The device should not be used to imply that inaccessible architecture has become universally accessible. Some visitors will still need ramps, lifts, wheelchairs, rest areas, transport or human assistance. Revenue share without venue equipment CAPEX

For a suitable site, Exo Motion can discuss a revenue-share structure in which the venue does not buy the equipment fleet upfront. Commercial scope, staffing, insurance, maintenance, charging, cleaning and support responsibilities are documented during onboarding. A zero-equipment-CAPEX proposal does not mean a venue has no operational responsibilities; the agreed model must still protect visitors, the site and the equipment.

International and European heritage enquiries

For European projects, the first useful information is practical: annual visitor profile, route maps, seasonality, operating hours, surface restrictions, current accessibility services, proposed handover point and the internal team responsible for safety and commercial review.

Can an exoskeleton be used on every heritage route?

No. Surface, gradient, stairs, crowd flow, conservation restrictions, emergency access and individual user capability all need review.

Does it require permanent infrastructure?

The wearable device does not normally require permanent track infrastructure along the route. The venue still needs an approved fitting, storage, charging and return plan.
