The short answer
Choose a supported fit, not just a lighter device.
Exo Motion Pro combines powered hip assistance with personal fitting, training, Australian after-sales support and supplier documentation for an assessed purchase. Our focus is suitable older adults and other people who can already walk independently.
Hypershell markets its current X Series for active everyday and outdoor use. Its product page describes the range as non-medical and requires independent walking and balance. That intended-use difference matters, but it is not proof that one product is better for every person. Manufacturer source.
Neither a product video nor ARTG inclusion establishes personal suitability. If balance, falls or a recent change in walking is the main concern, seek an appropriate clinician's advice before arranging powered assistance. Keep prescribed mobility aids in use unless your clinician advises otherwise.

What are you actually comparing?
Device, service and assessment are different decisions.
This comparison uses Exo Motion's current Australian purchase service and the manufacturer's current Hypershell X Pro S information. Older Hypershell X Pro specifications are not interchangeable with the X Pro S. Other consumer brands and local resellers may offer different services.
| Question | Exo Motion Pro | Hypershell X Pro S / questions for its seller |
|---|---|---|
| Intended context | Powered hip assistance for suitable independent walkers, with a senior and family-focused support pathway. | Consumer outdoor and everyday assistance; marketed as non-medical. Source. |
| Regulatory documentation | Supplier documentation records ARTG Class I inclusion. Obtain current documents for the supplied device through the care-manager pack. | Check the exact model and Australian supplier documentation. We do not infer the legal status of every product from a brand description. |
| Fitting before purchase | Free eligible Sydney home consultation, personal fitting, guided demonstration and training, with no purchase obligation. | The manufacturer provides an online fit check. Ask your seller whether in-person fitting and training are available locally. |
| Care-manager support | With consent, we coordinate supplier quotes, available documents and fitting observations. Clinical assessment and funding decisions remain independent. | Ask what model-specific documents and local support the seller can provide for your assessor. Funding requires an individual decision, whichever brand you choose. |
| Australian service and insurance | Australian contact, a 12-month written warranty plus ACL rights, A$20M public liability and A$20M product liability cover, subject to policy terms and exclusions. | Ask for the actual seller's warranty, service arrangements and evidence of applicable cover. No claim is made that a competitor is uninsured. |
| Purchase decision | A$2,499 plus A$80 delivery: A$2,579 for one unit. Read inclusions and return conditions. | Obtain an Australian delivered quote for the chosen model, including local support and return conditions. Overseas prices are not an Australian delivered-cost comparison. |
ARTG inclusion is not TGA endorsement, proof of clinical superiority or a guarantee of AT-HM or NDIS funding. Insurance is business cover, not a promise that every activity, person or incident is covered. Insurance and safety details.
Fit comes first
Assess the person, the fit and the real task.
Exo Motion's published weight is 1.8 kg with one battery. Weight still matters to the wearer, but it cannot tell you whether positioning, comfort and assisted movement are right for them. An uncomfortable or unsuitable fit is a reason to stop, not a reason to increase assistance.
A candidate profile, not an approval
- An adult who already walks independently and can understand operating guidance.
- Within the published fitting range: height 150-190 cm and body mass 40-150 kg, subject to an individual check.
- A clear walking goal and a suitable environment for a guided demonstration.
- A workable plan for putting the unit on, removing it, charging it and getting help.
Age alone does not establish suitability. For health, balance, falls or rehabilitation concerns, ask an appropriate clinician first. Exo Motion does not provide full body-weight support or a fall-prevention guarantee.
Share the candidate profile with a professionalWhat to discuss at the fitting
- Agree the task and safeguards. Discuss current aids, required supervision and when to stop.
- Check the actual unit. Use the exact model's directions for use to check fit and positioning. A measurement range alone is not a fit assessment.
- Observe a short, guided attempt. Note comfort, pressure, slipping, ease of movement and whether the person finds the assistance useful.
- Record the decision. Continue only if appropriate. Pause for refitting or clinical advice if discomfort, instability or uncertainty remains.
These are discussion checkpoints, not a fitting manual or clinical protocol. A current manufacturer-approved directions-for-use document is not yet included in our public pack and must be obtained and reviewed before finalising supply.
Numbers with a clear basis
Compare like-for-like specifications.
Exo Motion figures below are our published supplier summary, not independently measured comparative results. A complete worn configuration, battery condition and test method matter as much as the unit of measurement.
| Measure | Exo Motion Pro | How to use the figure |
|---|---|---|
| Device mass, kg | 1.8 kg with one battery; 2.1 kg with two batteries. | Hypershell publishes 2.585 kg worn mass for X Pro S, including its soft pack and one battery. These are separately published figures, not a head-to-head weighing test. Sources. |
| User height, cm | 150-190 cm. | A screening range only; check positioning and comfort on the actual person. |
| User body mass, kg | 40-150 kg. | This is the wearer range, not a lifting capacity or body-weight support rating. |
| Battery range, km | Up to 15 km. Actual range varies with wearer, terrain, assistance level, temperature and battery condition. | X Pro S advertises up to 17.5 km. Comparable test conditions have not been established here; these are published claims, not a head-to-head range test. Source. |
| Power, W; torque, N·m | Verified model-specific peak and continuous values are not available for this guide. | X Pro S advertises up to 800 W. Power is not torque; neither establishes personal suitability. We do not infer an Exo Motion value. Source. |
| Battery energy, Wh | Verified model-specific capacity not supplied for this guide. | Ask for watt-hours per battery. Milliamp-hours alone are insufficient without the nominal voltage. |
| Ingress rating | IP54, as published in our supplier summary. | Splash resistance is not waterproofing or permission to use the unit in unsuitable weather. Follow the current directions for use. |
View the supplier summary and document status. Before committing to purchase, ask for the exact supplied model, battery configuration, directions for use and any technical evidence your assessor needs.
Two separate assessment pathways
Funding starts with need and evidence, not the brand name.
AT-HM and Support at Home
The July 2026 AT-HM list includes category 12 02, "assistive products for walking, not manipulated by the arms", with a Prescribed (recommended) designation. This is a category for discussion with the provider, not a named approval of Exo Motion or another brand. Official list.
The provider and an appropriate health professional consider assessed needs, intended use, suitability, the relevant category and supporting documents. With written consent, Exo Motion can coordinate its supplier information. Confirm written approval and any contribution before ordering if funding is essential.
NDIS assistive technology
At A$2,499, Exo Motion Pro falls within the NDIA's published mid-cost AT price band. That is a price classification, not a finding that it meets an individual's plan or the NDIS funding criteria. The NDIA asks for written supporting evidence for mid-cost AT. Official purchase guidance.
A reference to "Category 05" is not a device approval or a claim code for this purchase. Ask the participant's plan team to confirm the current budget, appropriate item code and supplier requirements. NDIA-managed purchases require a registered NDIS provider; do not assume Exo Motion is registered.
Prescription, registration and funding are not interchangeable. A clinician's recommendation does not guarantee payment. ARTG inclusion does not guarantee an outcome. This page does not claim that competing products are legally barred from recommendation or funding.
Is Hypershell a medical device?
No, according to Hypershell's own guidance. The manufacturer describes its product as consumer equipment rather than a medical device and advises against medical use or replacing medical treatment or assistive devices. Read Hypershell's medical-use statement. We are reporting that statement, not making an independent determination of every model's Australian regulatory status.
Exo Motion's supplier documentation records ARTG Class I inclusion for the supplied device. This is a documentation difference to discuss with an advisor, not proof that Exo Motion is clinically superior or appropriate for a particular person.
Can you get Hypershell on the NDIS?
Do not assume approval or a blanket ban. We have not verified an official NDIA brand-specific decision for Hypershell. Its intended-use statement matters when considering a disability-related request, but a non-medical label by itself does not settle funding.
The advisor and plan team need the exact model, intended use, proposed activity, suitability evidence, eligible support and plan requirements. They should address any conflict between the proposed use and the manufacturer's directions. NDIS applies individual reasonable and necessary criteria; ARTG inclusion alone does not satisfy them either.
For an Exo Motion request, use the qualified record of individual approvals and evidence comparing lower-cost alternatives. Neither replaces a new participant's assessment.
Check the exact model
Is DNSYS X1 a medical device?
No, according to the manufacturer's X1 FAQ. DNSYS describes X1 as non-medical, advises against its use for certain skeletal, muscular or neurological issues, and states that the assistance does not provide balance support. These are X1-specific manufacturer statements, not a finding about every DNSYS model. Read the DNSYS X1 medical-use FAQ.
Does that decide whether NDIS can fund it?
No brand-level NDIS decision is established by this comparison. Manufacturer restrictions matter to an advisor's suitability and risk assessment, but a non-medical label alone is not evidence of a universal funding prohibition. Equally, Exo Motion's ARTG inclusion does not entitle a participant to funding.
Compare the intended use, current documents, individual needs, alternatives and proposed support against NDIS requirements. Do not buy a device contrary to its instructions because of a search result or an assumed funding entitlement. Use the advisor evidence guide and confirm the payment pathway before committing.
Researching Hypershell alternatives in Australia?
This is an Exo Motion supplier-authored comparison, not an independent Hypershell Australia review or a hands-on test of every model. Compare the intended use, fitting process, delivered price, documentation and follow-up support for the actual wearer.
If you are also researching DNSYS X1 in Australia, DNSYS identifies X1 as a hip-joint exoskeleton. Ask its supplier for current Australian purchase, fitting, warranty and regulatory information. We have not established its individual NDIS eligibility and do not rank its performance against Exo Motion here.
For any consumer exoskeleton versus a medically supplied device, separate regulatory documentation from individual clinical suitability and funding. Neither a product label nor an insurer's policy is a personal funding decision. Our NDIS evidence guide explains the questions to take to an advisor.
Before you decide
Questions about Exo Motion and consumer exoskeletons.
Is Hypershell a medical device?
No, according to Hypershell's own product guidance: it describes its exoskeleton as a consumer product, not a medical device, and advises against medical use or replacing medical treatment or assistive devices. Check the current guidance for the exact model before purchase.
Can you get Hypershell on the NDIS?
We have not verified an official NDIA decision establishing eligibility or a blanket funding exclusion for Hypershell. Its non-medical intended use is important information for an AT advisor, but that label alone does not decide an NDIS application. Ask your plan team to assess the exact model, intended use, evidence, support rules and individual plan before buying.
Is Exo Motion better than Hypershell for every senior?
No. There is no head-to-head clinical trial presented here. Compare the exact model's intended use, the person's walking ability, fit, supporting documents and the service available in their location. Some people need a different type of mobility support.
Does ARTG inclusion mean TGA approval of clinical benefits?
No. Supplier documentation records ARTG Class I inclusion. That does not establish TGA endorsement, clinical superiority, individual suitability or funding approval. Review current model-specific documents with the relevant professional.
Can AT-HM or NDIS pay for Exo Motion Pro?
A funded purchase may be considered through an individual assessment and the relevant provider or plan process. Neither a list category nor the purchase price establishes entitlement. Obtain confirmation of the applicable approval, contribution and ordering arrangements before buying.
Does personal fitting replace a clinical assessment?
No. Exo Motion's fitting and demonstration cover product setup, comfort and use. They are not a diagnosis, prescription, falls assessment or rehabilitation service. A qualified clinician should assess relevant health and mobility concerns independently.
Can I compare the 1.8 kg figure with another exoskeleton?
Only after checking what each number includes. Exo Motion's published 1.8 kg figure includes one battery. Check the other model's battery, straps and complete worn configuration. Weight alone does not establish comfort or suitability.
What is included when I buy Exo Motion Pro?
The unit costs A$2,499 plus A$80 initial delivery, A$2,579 total. Personal fitting, training and a 12-month written warranty are included, in addition to Australian Consumer Law rights. Free home demonstrations are available in eligible Sydney metropolitan areas; arrangements elsewhere are confirmed before payment.
Is DNSYS X1 a medical device?
DNSYS describes X1 as non-medical in its own FAQ and gives specific use restrictions. This statement concerns X1, not every DNSYS model. A manufacturer statement does not establish a universal NDIS funding prohibition; individual suitability and scheme requirements still need to be checked.
