Australian purchase guidance

Buying an exoskeleton with a managed NDIS plan.

Know who checks the paperwork, who receives the invoice and who pays. A clear handover helps avoid an unexpected private bill.

Exo Motion Pro wearable hip-assist exoskeleton
Exo Motion Pro. A$2,499 unit + A$80 delivery = A$2,579 total. Individual suitability and funding decisions apply.

Quick answer

Self-managed, plan-managed or NDIA-managed?

For an eligible purchase, plan-managed participants give the invoice and required documents to their plan manager; self-managed participants manage payment and claims; NDIA-managed participants must use a registered NDIS provider. Confirm the arrangement for this support before ordering.

Which payment pathway applies to your equipment?

A plan can use more than one management arrangement. Check the arrangement for the assistive technology you want to buy, rather than assuming it is the same as your therapy or other supports. NDIS explains self-management and mixed arrangements.

Self-managed: confirm the purchase and claim process

Ask your NDIS contact or advisor whether this equipment fits your plan and what evidence is needed. You manage the supplier payment and claim, and keep the purchase records. Decide how you will handle payment before placing the order; do not assume a private card payment will be reimbursed.

Check the equipment budget, then obtain a written quote and retain the agreed documentation.

Plan-managed: send the paperwork before an invoice

Ask the plan manager to check the proposed support, available budget and invoice requirements. Give them the quote and the advisor's evidence through an agreed channel. Plan management can include registered or unregistered suppliers, but it does not make every purchase eligible. You remain involved in authorising claims and choosing supports. Read the official plan-management guidance.

Get clarity on who can authorise the order and who the invoice should be addressed to. Read the handover checklist.

NDIA-managed: resolve the registered supplier first

An NDIA-managed equipment purchase requires a registered NDIS provider. This website does not establish Exo Motion's NDIS registration or an available registered-provider arrangement. Ask your NDIS contact to clarify the permitted supply route before arranging an order.

Do not pay Exo Motion privately expecting the NDIA to refund it. Confirm the supplier, evidence and payment authority first.

Not sure: ask one precise question

Who manages my assistive technology purchase budget, and what needs to be confirmed before I order this item?

Ask your NDIS contact, support coordinator or plan manager to show you the relevant part of your plan. A person who helps with daily support is not necessarily the person who manages your equipment payments. Keep the purchase on hold until the answer is clear.

Self-managed, plan-managed or NDIA-managed?

The NDIS purchasing guidance distinguishes these three payment pathways. Broader supplier choice does not remove the requirement for the item to be an eligible support that fits the plan.

NDIS equipment purchases: responsibilities by management type
ManagementSupplier and paymentBefore an orderRecords to retain
Self-managedYou select the supplier and manage payment and claims for eligible supports.Check your equipment budget, written evidence and the claim process. Broader supplier choice is not approval.Advisor evidence, quote, purchase authority, invoice, receipt and handover details.
Plan-managedYour plan manager handles invoices and claims. Registered or unregistered suppliers may be used for eligible purchases.Confirm the support, budget, invoice recipient and who authorises the order with your manager.Quote, advisor evidence, manager correspondence, invoice and agreed delivery and training details.
NDIA-managedA registered NDIS provider is required and claims through the NDIS.Confirm the registered supply route and required authority. Do not assume Exo Motion is registered.Confirmed provider details, required evidence, quote and supply and handover arrangements.

Exo Motion's NDIS provider registration is not established by this website, its ABN, insurance or ARTG inclusion. An NDIA-managed customer should resolve the registered-supplier requirement before any order. We do not promise that an alternative provider arrangement is already available.

What to send your plan manager

Start with a short administrative enquiry rather than a payment. You could write:

I am considering an Exo Motion Pro hip-assist exoskeleton. Could you confirm the equipment funding and supplier requirements for my plan, the written evidence you need, and who should receive the quote? I have not placed an order.

Attach the supplier quote only after agreeing a suitable channel. The quote should show A$2,499 for the unit and A$80 delivery, A$2,579 total, with fitting and training arrangements stated. Tell the supplier if another organisation must be the invoice recipient. Check that your advisor's advice concerns this model and the person who will use it.

The manager may need to ask for further information. Their invoice processing is not a clinical assessment, and a supplier's willingness to invoice is not funding approval. Keep the advisor's recommendation, the funding discussion and the final purchase authority as separate records.

Avoid a private-payment surprise

Do not treat an online card payment as an NDIS claim. Paying first can leave you responsible if the purchase is not eligible or the plan cannot pay. Establish the required authority and payment route before checking out.

Ask about independent professional fees, delivery, any later servicing and how purchase returns work. Our seven-day change-of-mind policy applies to an unused unit in its original packaging from receipt; customers pay return postage. It is not an offer to use the unit for seven days and return it. Australian Consumer Law rights remain separate.

If the paperwork is incomplete, pause the order. You can still read the evidence guide, check the equipment budget questions and discuss a free eligible Sydney demonstration without committing to purchase. The aim is a supported decision, not a rushed invoice.

Common questions

Can a plan manager pay for an Exo Motion unit?

A plan manager can process an eligible purchase when the participant's funding, evidence and supplier arrangements meet the requirements. Ask the manager to confirm the paperwork and invoice process before placing an order; this is not a promise of approval.

Can an NDIA-managed participant buy directly from any supplier?

No. NDIA-managed purchases require a registered NDIS provider. This site does not establish that Exo Motion has that registration, so confirm an appropriate registered-supplier arrangement before ordering.

Does an online payment automatically become an NDIS claim?

No. A card payment is a purchase from the supplier, not a funding application or a reimbursement approval. Confirm the applicable payment process with your plan team first.

Can different parts of my NDIS plan use different management types?

Yes. Check the management arrangement for the assistive technology you want to buy. It may differ from your other supports. If you are unsure, ask your NDIS contact or plan manager before placing an order.

Continue your funding discussion

Do not send participant numbers or medical records through the public enquiry form. Agree consent and a suitable communication channel first.
