Australian purchase guidance

NDIS Category 05 and an exoskeleton purchase.

Understand which budget you are discussing before deciding what to buy. A category name, an available balance and approval for a particular purchase are different things.

Exo Motion Pro wearable hip-assist exoskeleton
Exo Motion Pro. A$2,499 unit + A$80 delivery = A$2,579 total. Individual suitability and funding decisions apply.

Quick answer

What does Capital Category 05 mean?

Category 05 is the NDIS assistive-technology support category within Capital supports. It is not an Exo Motion approval or a complete claim code. Confirm that the proposed equipment matches your plan, available funding and evidence requirements before ordering.

Start with the NDIS funding overview

What does Capital Category 05 mean?

The NDIS code guide identifies 05 Assistive Technology under Capital. Current participant guidance describes capital funding as funding for the supports specified in your plan, rather than a general shopping allowance. Ask your plan team to read the actual wording with you. Check the current NDIS code guide and Capital supports guidance.

For an Exo Motion enquiry, distinguish three questions: is equipment funding available, is this type of support consistent with the plan, and is this particular device suitable for the person? Finding the category answers only the first part of that conversation. An unspent amount does not establish that it can be used for a hip-assist exoskeleton.

Do not confuse NDIS Category 05 with Support at Home AT-HM item 12 02. They belong to different schemes and serve different purposes. The AT-HM funding guide is the relevant starting point for an aged-care provider discussion, not an NDIS claim instruction.

Where does the Exo Motion price sit?

Exo Motion Pro is A$2,499. Initial delivery is A$80, making A$2,579 for one unit delivered. That unit price sits within the NDIS mid-cost assistive-technology band of A$1,500-A$15,000. Cost classification alone does not establish funding eligibility. See the NDIS cost-band guidance.

Our purchase price includes personal fitting, training and a 12-month written warranty, alongside Australian Consumer Law rights. Confirm how fitting and training will be arranged at your address. A supplier quote is separate from any independent OT, physiotherapist or other advisor's fees. Ask that professional to explain their charges before appointments are arranged.

A useful budget file separates the device, delivery, included supplier services and any independently charged work. Keep the total and the responsibilities visible. The purchase terms explain delivery and returns; a free eligible Sydney demonstration is not a paid rental or a seven-day used-product trial.

I already have NDIS assistive technology funding. What next?

NDIS guidance says a participant with mid-cost AT funding already in their plan can receive the advisor's written evidence and then purchase the item. Without that funding, the evidence can be taken to a check-in or reassessment. Read the official evidence and purchasing guidance.

Check the actual plan wording, available funds, device suitability and payment arrangements before ordering. An unused balance is not permission to buy any product. Exo Motion can provide a quote; it cannot interpret your plan as an approval.

Read the actual plan

A purchase-budget checklist, not just a balance check.

Capital supports are stated: the NDIS says you must buy the supports described in the relevant category and cannot move funding between Capital categories. Your plan also identifies whether a quote is needed. A Category 05 label or an unspent balance is not enough on its own. Check the official explanation of Capital supports.

1. Wording and available funding
Ask your plan team which equipment support is described and what amount is available for this purchase. Do not use an unrelated category simply because it has money left.
2. Suitability and evidence
Ask your advisor whether the proposed device, alternatives and risks are adequately documented. The price band does not replace advice about the person using the equipment.
3. Complete supplier cost
One Exo Motion Pro is A$2,499 plus A$80 delivery: A$2,579 total. Check any independent assessment or other provider charges separately; they are not automatically included in the equipment price.
4. Payment and authority
Confirm who manages this equipment funding, the supplier requirements and who may authorise the order. A quote is not an instruction to purchase.

What if the answer is unclear?

If suitable mid-cost funding is already in the plan, follow the written-evidence and purchase requirements with your plan team. If it is not funded, discuss the evidence at a check-in or reassessment. If the wording, amount or supplier route is uncertain, pause and ask for clarification before payment. NDIS sets out the evidence pathway.

For example, compare the complete A$2,579 supplier quote with the relevant equipment support, not the unit price alone. A budget large enough to cover the figure still does not establish clinical suitability or permission to purchase. Ask the advisor and the payment contact their separate questions.

The supplier document request can begin with a name and contact details. Do not submit a participant number, full plan or medical history through the public form; arrange consent and a suitable channel first.

A practical budget check before ordering

  1. Read the equipment description. Note the actual support or item stated in the plan, not only a category heading.
  2. Check the available amount and timing. Ask whether existing commitments or funding periods affect what can be spent now.
  3. Check who manages this part of the plan. The payment and supplier arrangements may differ from another budget in the same plan.
  4. Obtain appropriate written advice. Keep the participant-specific recommendation separate from the supplier's product summary.
  5. Confirm the ordering instruction. Establish who will receive and authorise the invoice before anyone pays privately.

These are questions to take to your plan team, not a way to approve your own expenditure. The NDIS explains that funding periods and support categories affect access to funding in its support catalogue guidance. Our plan-management guide explains the purchasing roles.

Request a quote without guessing a claim code

Ask Exo Motion for a written quote identifying the exact model, unit price, delivery, fitting arrangements and after-sales contact. Supply your suburb and the preferred contact for supplier paperwork. Do not put your NDIS number, diagnosis or medical records into the public enquiry form.

The plan manager or relevant professional should confirm the appropriate claim item and any registration requirements. We do not publish an assumed device-specific claim code. The title of the NDIS AT, Home Modifications and Consumables code guide should also not be mistaken for the separate aged-care AT-HM scheme.

Use the supplier specification summary as an initial discussion aid. Current approved directions for use and a complete approved specification sheet have not been supplied for that public pack. Request and review current product documents before finalising supply. A budget match cannot resolve a missing safety document or an unsuitable fit.

Common questions

Is NDIS Category 05 an exoskeleton approval?

No. It identifies an assistive-technology budget category, not a brand approval, personal funding decision or complete claim code. The proposed purchase must match the participant's plan and support requirements.

Is Exo Motion Pro low-cost or mid-cost assistive technology?

Its A$2,499 unit price is within the NDIS mid-cost band of A$1,500-A$15,000. Delivery adds A$80. This price classification does not determine clinical suitability, risk or funding approval.

Can I use AT-HM item 12 02 as an NDIS claim code?

No. Do not transfer an aged-care category reference into an NDIS claim. Ask your NDIS plan team to confirm the applicable support and purchasing arrangements.

Do I need new NDIS funding if mid-cost AT is already in my plan?

Not necessarily. NDIS guidance describes purchasing with written advisor evidence when mid-cost AT funding is already in the plan. Confirm that the proposed item fits the plan, available funds and supplier requirements. Otherwise, discuss the evidence at a check-in or reassessment.

Does an available Category 05 balance authorise an exoskeleton purchase?

No. Check the supports described in your plan, available equipment funding, advisor evidence, supplier requirements and purchase authority. A sufficient balance or category label alone does not establish suitability or approval. Pause the order if any of these points is unclear.

Do not send participant numbers or medical records through the public enquiry form. Agree consent and a suitable communication channel first.
