Can retirement-village residents access AT-HM funding?

First, clarify which setting you live in

An independent living unit and an approved residential aged-care home can be on the same campus but involve different care arrangements. Tell the assessor where you live, what services you already receive and who supplies them. If you have moved from an independent unit into residential care, ask the care team which equipment arrangements apply now.

Ask your village manager for a copy of the services included in your agreement. Then ask your Support at Home provider to check for overlap before any purchase. Do not assume a personal wearable device falls inside or outside those obligations without checking the agreement. You are looking for a clear explanation of who arranges each part, not two organisations paying for the same support.

Describe the walking activity that matters

Useful examples might include walking from your unit to a shared dining room, visiting a neighbour or reaching a nearby shop. Explain where you currently stop, what assistance you use and who normally walks with you. A care manager can use this information to organise the right discussion; it is more useful than simply asking for a particular product.

Where Exo Motion may fit

Exo Motion Pro supplies powered hip assistance for selected adults who can already walk independently. It is not a balance guarantee or a replacement for a prescribed walking aid. Individual fit, comfort, understanding and the environment all matter. The current supported range is 40-150 kg and up to 190 cm, subject to suitability and fitting.

An eligible free Sydney home visit can include a family member, carer or clinician. The visit is a product demonstration with fitting and training, not a clinical assessment. Agree on a modest, familiar activity with the person and their clinician rather than using difficult terrain as a test.

Keep approval separate from the sales conversation

The device costs A$2,499 to buy privately. A funding allocation is not a retail voucher, and a participant contribution may still apply. Before relying on funding, request written confirmation of the exact item, approved amount, contribution, ordering method and who receives the invoice. With written consent, Exo Motion can send supplier documents to your nominated care manager and follow up on product questions. You or an authorised representative still reviews and signs required forms. Your provider and treating professionals keep responsibility for assessment and approval.

Outside Sydney or waiting for a decision?

This guide discusses an Australian funding pathway. Our free home-visit service is currently Sydney-based. Interstate families can request a call to discuss documents and whether a practical local assessment, fitting and service arrangement can be agreed. Shipping and remote fitting are not automatically included or confirmed.

If funding is unavailable, suitable customers may ask about private senior rental at A$129 per week, with a four-week minimum of A$516. Stock, service area and written rental terms apply. Private rental is not evidence that a later purchase will be funded.
