How to prepare a walking-aid quote for Support at Home

A clear quote helps a provider review an equipment request. It is one piece of the evidence, not a prescription or an approval letter.

The short answer

Begin with your care manager or Support at Home provider, clarify the assessment and documentation they need, then ask for an itemised quote. Exo Motion can prepare its supplier documents and coordinate questions with your written consent.

1. Agree on the question the equipment should answer

Describe a real activity, rather than asking for a device simply because it appears in a video. For example: your parent still walks independently but wants to assess powered assistance on a short community outing. Tell the professional what the person currently uses, where the activity takes place and what concerns they have raised.

The family guide can help you prepare that conversation. It should not be used to decide that a walker is no longer needed or that a wearable robot will correct a health problem. Product selection should follow the person's circumstances, not the amount of money that appears to be available.

2. Ask the provider what is required before requesting an order

Government AT-HM guidance requires the equipment to meet assessed needs and sets out when professional prescription is relevant. Ask your provider who will assess the request, what the current evidence requirements are and whether they need a particular quotation format. The supplier's demonstration does not replace that professional work.

Record the provider's contact, the intended recipient of the quote and any reference they ask you to use. There is no benefit in sending complete medical records to several businesses just to ask a price. Start with the minimum information needed; arrange any necessary clinical information through appropriate consent and secure channels.

3. Request an itemised supplier quotation

For an Exo Motion request, ask us to show the exact product, current purchase price, included services and any separately agreed charges. Give the provider enough detail to understand what is being purchased without searching several web pages. The pricing page provides context, but a web price is not an individual funding approval.

4. Keep fitting observations separate from clinical conclusions

During an eligible free Sydney home visit, the user and family can observe fit, comfort, ability to follow instructions and practical setup. A short note might record what was tried, whether the user wanted to stop and which questions remained. Record an unsuccessful or uncomfortable trial as honestly as a positive one.

Exo Motion supplies those product observations when appropriate; a qualified professional decides what they mean for clinical suitability. A customer video, age or brief demonstration cannot prove a device will meet another person's needs. Use the health-professional guide to see the supplier documents available.

5. Give consent for supplier coordination

Your family can nominate the care manager or provider we may contact and give written permission. We can send our quote and product documents, answer questions and follow up on missing supplier information. The customer or authorised representative still checks and signs required forms. Consent to speak is not permission for us to approve funding.

6. Wait for the written ordering instructions

Confirm the approved item, contribution, invoice recipient and delivery arrangements before paying if funding is essential to the decision. If the request is declined or pending, ask the provider what remains unresolved. Our funding guide explains the broader pathway; our cost comparison covers private options without assuming approval or rental-to-purchase credits.

Questions families ask

Is a supplier quote the same as a prescription?

No. A quote describes the product, price and supplier terms. A prescription or clinical recommendation, when required, comes from the appropriately qualified professional.

Can you send the quote directly to my provider?

Yes, with appropriate consent and the provider's contact details. We can also answer product questions and provide supporting supplier documents.

Does the self-check submit a funding application?

No. It helps you prepare for a provider discussion. It does not conduct an aged-care assessment, lodge an application or approve funding.
